UH-15P Plan Set

The UH-15P is a high speed cruiser capable of speeds in excess of 75 mph. The lightweight pointed design combination with a 2-stroke thrust engine allows the 15P to accelerate like sports car over any terrain.  It corners hard, has an impressive top speed and can spin 360 turns like a top.

It’s powered by two engines. The lift fan is powered by a vertical shaft 8 t 15 horsepower lawn tractor engine. Briggs & Stratton, Tecumseh, Honda, Kohler or Robin engines work well.  The thrust propeller is powered by a 2-stroke or 4-stroke engine. In the 2-stroke category snowmobile type engines work well; Rotax, Yamaha, Polaris and Hirth engines work well. For 4-stroke engines some builders choose to power the craft with  Briggs & Stratton, Kohler, EA-81 Subaru, HKS or modern 4-stroke engines removed from snowmobiles.

Construction is from wooden ribs and stringers covered in plywood. This construction technique is lightweight and allows the builder to install storage compartments in the hull between the ribs.

Climb Gradient:                 14 to 45%

Engines:                             8 to 15 hp lift (under 80 Lbs), 2 cycle thrust (20 to 90 hp)

Construction Method:     Wood Rib’s and stringers with Plywood Skin

Construction Time:          150-400 hours

Thrust duct diameter:     48 inches

Lift duct diameter:           30 inches

How it works:

A single 8-12 hp+ vertical shaft lawnmower engine turns a four blade 30-inch ducted fan that provides lift . The 20-90 hp horizontal shaft thrust engine turns a 42 inch two blade propeller for thrust.

How it’s made:

It's built from a wood ribs connected by stringers and covered in 1/8 inch plywood. Seams ae fiberglassed together for strength. Positive floatation is from foam blocks or water tight containers such as 1 gallon jugs.

Joystick Steering:

The 13T teaches the principles of hovering; riding on a cushion of air, thrust and lift, and how to operate a craft not in contact with the ground or water. Joystick steering controls two vertical rudders for precise control. Thrust throttle is on the joystick and lift throttle is typically on the dashboard.

Flying a hovercraft:

Driving the craft is easy as it has only three controls; steering, lift throttle and thrust throttle. Slowly advancing the lift throttle will bring the craft up on cushion. Adding thrust power accelerates the craft. Speed is easily controlled by increasing or decreasing thrust engine rpm.

Where to fly:

The 13T will operate on land, water, snow, ice, mud, parking lots, football fields, ponds and rivers. Speed varies over each terrain. Basically, it will run on any relatively smooth surface. Smoother terrain will allow the craft to achieve higher speeds while rough terrain will slow the craft.
